He was driven from the west during the war there a long time ago, and finally settled down in Serendia. A self-made man, he advanced up the rankings to his current level of skill instructor on his own. He regrets that he doesn't have the reputation that Cliff and Armstrong have because he fought at the rear during the war. He is on friendly terms with Cliff, but sees Armstrong, a fellow skill instructor, as a rival.
