For the impoverished residents of Dongmakgol, the primary source of income comes from the fox pelts found in the surrounding rocky mountains. The villagers consume the meat and tan the remaining hides, selling them to the peddler for coin or exchanging them for soft hemp to make clothing. The peddler, in turn, disguises the fox pelts from Dongmakgol as those from other regions like Dalbeol Village, making a tidy profit.
