Bukpo's meju is made by grinding beans grown in Bukpo. These beans absorb plenty of seawater from Bukpo's soil as they grow. Because of this, soy sauce, soybean paste, and hot pepper paste made with Bukpo's meju have a deep taste of the sea, and at one time, they were even offered as tribute.
