The Crown Prince commanded his ministers, "The king hath passed away in his chamber. Our sorrow knoweth no bounds." King Yeongjong the Great has departed this life in the Gangnyeongjeon Hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace. The civil and military officials gathered outside Sungnyemun Gate, awaiting the appointed time. The Crown Prince, having shed his mourning clothes, emerged in ceremonial attire. The ritual official guided him to the Deceased Great King's bier, where he ascended the steps after the formal rites. With a resounding voice, the chief ceremonial officer called out, "Bow and kneel!" The ritual official softly echoed, "Bow and kneel," and proclaimed, "Your Highness, the Crown Prince, ascend the throne."
