Black Shiner

The black shiner thrives in fast-flowing streams characterized by large stones or gravel beds. These fish are typically found in schools of ten and are only visible in relatively clear waters. Omnivorous by nature, they have a particular fondness for consuming moss and larvae. Uniquely, they reproduce by laying their eggs in the nests of aucha perch. The perch, in turn, guard the black shiner's eggs, mistaking them for their own.
