Fertile lands like this would have enticed the powerful and wealthy, yet the people of Donghae Province long deemed Gowun Plateau to be no one's land, but simply a blessing from the king, and they gratefully cultivated it. Hence, Gowun Plateau was vital communal farmland, where people harvested reeds each season to sustain their livelihoods. There were so many reeds that population growth posed no issue. It could even house all the people of Soopmol Village, whose homes were destroyed by the Dokkebi King Duoksini's furious lightning.
