One-eyed Physiognomist III: Physiognomy of the Self As he gazed upon his reflection in the glass, he came face to face with his own physiognomy, something that had never been done before. He was so startled that he dropped the glass he was holding. He saw the image of his future, filled with screams and chaos, and it shook him to the core. The next day, the king summoned him while he was still intoxicated. "You think you're untouchable? Then tell me, what do you see in the face of this rat inside this pot? What do you think its future holds?" "This rat's fate seems to be destined for misfortune due to its offspring." Despite the claims of the vassals that the rat had no offspring, he insisted once again that the rat did indeed have children. The vassals began accusing the physiognomist of mocking the king with baseless statements and using his position of power to insult him. The king was infuriated and immediately ordered for the physiognomist to be brought before the court for judgment at daybreak. Soon after, the physiognomist and requested an enormous amount of alcohol from a close friend's young son. This friend was a constable. Overwhelmed by the fear of losing his life and unable to bear the thought of not being able to read faces anymore, he decided that he must go to where his master resided. He consumed all of the alcohol and, in a desperate act, stabbed both of his eyes.
