According to what I heard back then, there existed an enormous temple of unknown origins. But due to the dense fog that covered the temple, no one was sure who was occupying it before them. Then, after the failed summoning, they arrived to find the fog had cleared, unlike their initial investigations. As if someone or something had been waiting for their arrival.
